CARBONDALE, Ill.—Southern Illinois University volleyball player Meg Viggars has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Viggars was the Salukis’ spark over the weekend recording her fifth and sixth double-double of the season as Southern Illinois topped Illinois State and Indiana State to tie the school record for most conference wins in a season.

The Stoke-on-Trent, England native compiled 22 kills to average 2.44 per set. Viggars also was efficient behind the service line knocking in four aces. The freshman setter also recorded 25 digs to average 2.78 per set and tallied five block assists.

This honor marks the first time this season Viggars has been recognized as the MVC Freshman of the Week but second overall accolade. Viggars was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11.
