CARBONDALE, Ill.--Southern Illinois head volleyball coach Justin Ingram announced Wednesday the signing of three players who will join the Salukis for 2014.

"There are no doubts this class contains elite athletes with high character and strong values," said SIU head coach Justin Ingram. "Our coaching staff worked very hard to identify the right talent that would be great ambassadors of the program while at SIU. We couldn't be more excited."

    The 2014 signing class includes:

Abby Barrow, Outside Hitter, 6'0, Metamora, Ill. (Metamora Township HS)
Anna Himan, Middle Blocker, 6'1, Roland, Iowa (Roland-Story HS)
Gabriella Shepherd, Defensive Specialist, 5'6, Channahon, Ill. (Minooka Community HS)

    Abby Barrow

Barrow earned first-team All-Conference and All-Area honors in 2012 and 2013 at Metamora Township High School. Barrow compiled 831 career kills to rank third all-time at Metamora. In 2013, the outside hitter led her team to a 30-7 season including a regional championship.

"We were fortunate to have Abby at our Saluki Volleyball camps this summer," Ingram said. "She proved to be an exceptional athlete and a quick learner. Abby possess a great vertical jump and an innate attacking balance. She will compete at the left or right side attacking position."

    Anna Himan

A native of Roland, Iowa, Himan was named first-team All-Conference her junior and senior year. In 2013, Himan led Roland-Story to a 21-9 overall record. The middle blocker tallied 210 kills, 64 service aces and 37 blocks her senior season and was an I.G.C.A. Senior All-Star Participant.

"Anna is a dynamic athlete and elite jumper," Ingram said. "She will continue to make great strides as a volleyball player while at SIU as a result of her tremendous work ethic and have the ability to contribute as a middle attacker early in her career."

    Gabriella Shepherd

Shepherd, a two-year varsity starter at Minooka Community High School, recorded 150 digs and 45 service aces her senior season. In 2013, Shepherd helped the Indians to a 21-12, second place conference finish. As a member of UNO Volleyball Club, the Channahon, Ill. native competed in the 2013 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship in Dallas, Texas, placing 13th.

"Gabriella will be a valuable addition to our Saluki Volleyball program as a defensive specialist," Ingram said. "She is an extremely fast athlete who is loaded with potential. Gabriella is also a legacy as both her parents graduated from SIU, her Saluki pride runs deep. "
