Salukis Lose to Sycamores

Kiwana Battle scored 22 points to lead Indiana State to a 84-71 victory over Southern Illinois, Thursday night at the Hulman Center.
The loss marked the Salukis' seventh straight as they have now dropped 13 of their last 14 games.
After leading by just five at halftime, 33-28, the Sycamores jumped on the Salukis early and often in the second half. Battle's layup opened second half scoring as Shana Sparks nailed a three-pointer to put ISU up by 10 at 38-28
After SIU had narrowed the margin to a nine-point gap (57-48) with 10:03 left, Indiana State went on a 14-3 run, opening a 19-point lead at 70-54 with 5:22 remaining. The key to the Sycamores' success was a 19-of-28 outing at the free throw line.
SIU had four players in double figures led by Terica Hathaway's 18 points. Also tallying 10 or more were Angela Tolbert (12), Geshla Woodard (11), and Kristine Abramowski (10).
The Salukis, now 5-20, 2-14 on the season, will return to action at Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 25. Tip-off is set for 2:05 p.m.
