CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams concluded the SASF Invitational with eight individual titles and three provisional marks at the SIU Rec Center on Saturday.
Sophomore Malaikah Love, who demolished the school triple jump record by nearly a foot, joined Kandise Thompson and Jeneva McCall as the three Salukis to win two events at the meet.
Adding in the five individual titles from Friday and Southern Illinois came away with 13 event victories to the delight of head coach Connie Price-Smith, whose team's was competing for the first time since Dec. 4.
"It's nice to come back after break and have a great meet like this," Price-Smith said. "I saw a lot of heart from everybody out there this weekend and the athletes competed really hard."
Love's record-breaking triple jump went out at a provisional mark of 42-06.25, which was 11 inches further than Inna Turevsky's school record that she set in 2005. She also won the long jump on Friday.
Kandise Thompson had a very strong meet for the Dawgs, as she took home titles in the 200m and 400m dashes. Her 200m time of 25.17 eclipsed her previous personal-best.
The Salukis finished one-two in the women's shot put. Jeneva McCall followed up her first place finish in the weight throw on Friday by winning the shot put Saturday. She and Gwen Berry, who came in second, recorded provisional marks and McCall's notch is the second furthest shot put in SIU indoor history (52-05.50).
For the SIU men, Brandon Deloney blazed by the competition in the 200m to claim the title with his time of 21.95. Sammy Biggs and Sam Megli were the other two on the men's team to win events Saturday. Briggs claimed the 400m with a time of 49.01 and Megli won the 800m by clocking in at 1:57.99.
Meredith Hayes rounded out the winning for SIU. She won the 60H with a time of 8.50.
