Women's Tennis starts fall season at the Big Easy Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team will open the fall season at the Big Easy Classic hosted by the University of New Orleans Sept. 21-23, at the University Tennis Center in New Orleans.
The Salukis will compete against players from Univ. of New Orleans, Nicholls State, Alcorn State, Xavier, Loyola, McNeese State, and Troy.
Beginning on Friday with opening round play, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) sanctioned tournament will conclude Sunday. Matches begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with Sunday's schedule to be determined.
The draw for the tournament consists of three flights of singles' play with one flight of doubles'. A consolation bracket will consist of participants who fell in the opening round of competition. In addition to the individual brackets, each of the squads will vie for a team championship. Points will be awarded to institutions based on wins in both the main draw and consolation tournaments.
The Salukis return No. 1 singles player Melanie Delsart from last year's squad that finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference, as well as Jennifer Dien, Anita Lee, Korey Love and Anastacia Simons. The Salukis add one newcomer in Abigail Plecki.
