Salukis Shut Out at Murray State, 1-0

CARBONDALE, Ill. – After four days off from competition, Southern Illinois soccer (9-3-2, 3-2-0) was back in action on Friday when they visited Murray State (6-4-4, 1-1-3). A late first-half goal by the Racers proved enough to beat the Salukis, who fell 1-0.

How It Happened
First Half
Both teams put a shot on goal in the opening 10 minutes, but neither attempt was able to find the back of the net. The Salukis continued keeping the pressure up, tallying four of the next six shots on goal, but Murray State's goalkeeper refused to let one past.
Then, with less than four minutes remaining in the half, Murray State got on the board to take a 1-0 lead. The Racers put another shot up in the closing minutes, but it sailed wide right, keeping the Murray State lead at 1-0 heading into the halftime break.
Second Half
Murray State came out firing in the second half, registering two shots on goal less than eight minutes in. Southern responded with one of their own, but still could not find an equalizer.
Following a Racers' shot on goal that Miller took care, SIU had two of the final three shots on goal in the match. Unfortunately, Murray State's goalkeeper remained unbeaten to secure the shutout and the Salukis' 1-0 defeat.

SIU now has a lengthy break from game action before they face Valparaiso at home on October 19 for Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
