CARBONDALE - Coming off solid performances at the Saluki Invitational last Saturday, the Southern Illinois University men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action this weekend at separate meets. The men's team will travel to Normal to compete in the Illinois State Invitational on Friday at 3:45 p.m., while the women will compete at the Penn State National Open at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Saluki men are coming off a second-place finish at the Saluki Invitational and are at full strength at the right time of the season, with senior captain Joe Zeibert back from a groin injury and two-time Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country "Athlete of the Week" Doron Giat leading the way. The ISU Invitational was originally scheduled for September 15, but was postponed due to the national tragedies in New York and Washington. Though some of the original field of teams won't be able to compete in the rescheduled meet, the field will still include MVC opponents Bradley, Northern Iowa and the host team. The SIU women's team is coming off a fifth-place showing at the Saluki Invitational, a strong showing considering they have just five healthy runners at the moment. Senior Julia Rountree is coming off her best performance of the year, finishing fifth in the field of 115 runners, and junior Katie Meehan is coming off another solid performance, finishing seventh.
