Short-Handed Women's Cross Country Team Competes At Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A short-handed Southern Illinois University women's cross country team competed at the Penn State National Open on Saturday, as the Salukis had just four runners and did not register a team score in the eight-team event.
Senior Julia Roundtree and junior Katie Meehan led the Salukis, running neck-and-neck and finishing 25th and 26th, respectively, in the field of 114 runners.
Roundtree clocked in at 22 minutes, 56.11 seconds in the 6,000 meter race, while Meehan's time was 23 minutes, 1.85 seconds. SIU's other finishers included freshman Christen Carducci (65th, 24:28.32) and junior Erin Simone (94th, 27:12.73).
Florida's Erin Merten won the race with a time of 21 minutes, 24.83 seconds and James Madison took the team title with 35 points, followed by Penn State (56), William and Mary (71), Florida (89), Lehigh (141), Mt. St. Mary's (178) and St. Joseph's (178).
SIU's men's and women's teams will now have two weeks off in preparation for the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Meet to be held October 27th at Illinois State University in Normal.
