Meehan makes MVC Scholar Athlete Team

CARBONDALE --? - Southern Illinois University cross country runner Katie Meehan has been named to the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete team.
Meehan, a junior from Sedalia, Mo., placed 18th at Saturday's MVC Championships and carries a 3.68 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale. Meehan is majoring in Management at SIU.
Meehan clocked in in 18 minutes, 45.5 seconds in Saturday's 5k race, the second-best time for SIU, helping the Salukis place 8th in the team standings.
The Scholar-Athlete team is a unique Verizon/CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic all-America voting. Those eligible must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institutions, and they must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. The top-10 finishers at the league championships who meet the criteria earn first-team honors.
