DES MOINES, Iowa - The women's cross country team showed its potential grabbing a second-place finish at the Missouri Valley Cross Country Championships this weekend.
Southwest Missouri State (29) took this year's title, followed by SIU (73), who once again edged out Indiana State (110) - defeating the Sycamores three out of four times this season.
Senior Noa Beitler led the way for SIU as she placed sixth overall in under 18 minutes with a time of 17:53 - the best time of her career. Beitler's performance also earned her all-conference honors for the first time in her career.
Freshmen Brittani Christensen (18:13) and Lindsay Wagner (18:14) followed placing 11th and 12th, and finishing just one second apart. Christensen was just two seconds shy of matching her personal best time set earlier in the season.
Freshmen Sarah Rinker (16th) and Cherylynn Schilling (28th) rounded out the top five for the Salukis with times of 18:23 and 18:52, respectively. Rinker set a new personal best, destroying her old mark by 16 seconds.
SIU will return to action in two weeks at the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15. Results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
