TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Saluki women's golf team travels to Indiana this weekend to compete in the Indiana State Spring Invitational, the team's final tournament before the MVC Championships beginning April 19. Six Missouri Valley Conference teams will be represented at this weekend's meet.
"We're hoping to play our best and see where we stand among our conference competition," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "This is a tournament that we would like to win, so we have to make sure we play our best golf."
The Salukis are coming off a strong performance at their home tournament, the 21st annual Saluki Invitational, where they finished in first place by one stroke over SIU-Edwardsville. Junior Mattie Lindner led the Salukis, coming away with her first medalist finish of her career.
This weekend's tournament features 13 schools: host Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Bradley, Evansville, Loyola, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, South Dakota, Chicago State, Williams Woods and Rend Lake CC. Indiana State, Northern Iowa, Bradley, Evansville, Loyola and SIU will represent the MVC.
The tournament will be played at The Country Club of Terre Haute, a 6,041-yard, par-72 course, beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) on Sunday and Monday. Mattie Lindner, Brooke Cusumano, Hanna Netisingha, Kristie Yang and Kris Grimes will golf for the Salukis, with Morgan Reimler and Alice Ho competing as individuals.
"If our team puts everything into play that we've been practicing over the last week and a half, we should fare pretty well," Mihelich said.
