Kylie Giebelhausen selected to Preseason All-MVC team.
ST. LOUIS – The Southern Illinois women's basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll, the conference announced Tuesday. Senior Kylie Giebelhausen has been chosen to the five-member Preseason All-MVC Team.
Defending MVC champion Drake was projected to finish first, followed by Missouri State. Northern Iowa, SIU and Indiana State rounded out the top-five.
The Salukis, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Cindy Stein, finished 16-15 overall and earned the fourth seed in the MVC Tournament with a 10-8 mark a year ago. Southern advanced to the Women's Basketball Invitational for the second-straight season.
SIU returns Giebelhausen, who had a breakthrough junior campaign in which she led the league in three-pointers made (82), finished second in minutes played (35.0/game), third in three-point field goal percentage (38.7%) and seventh in scoring (13.8/game).
Southern also has several talented newcomers, as freshmen Rachel Pudlowski, Abby Brockmeyer, and Makenzie Silvey all figure to earn significant playing time during the 2017-18 season.
Giebelhausen, a 6-foot-1 guard/forward from East Peoria, Ill., was one of five chosen to the squad. She was joined on the Preseason All-MVC team by the Ellie Howell of Northern Iowa, Sammie Bachrodt and Becca Hittner of Drake, and Liza Fruendt was selected as the league's preseason Player of the Year.
The Salukis open the 2017-18 season with a pair of home exhibition contests, beginning with Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. SIU opens the regular season on Nov. 10 when it hosts UT Martin.
