MVC Release
ST. LOUIS – Freshman Abby Brockmeyer of the Southern Illinois University women's basketball team was selected the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second-straight week, the league office announced Monday, Nov. 27.
Brockmeyer poured in a team-high 15 points and added seven rebounds, a block and steal in the Salukis' 79-74 overtime win at SEMO on Nov. 22. The Raymond, Ill. native finished 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the floor in a career-best 39 minutes in the victory, which marked the third-straight game in which she has scored in double figures.
The 6-foot-2 forward is just the third player in program history to earn back-to-back Newcomer of the Week honors, joining Stephany Neptune (2009-10) and Cartaesha Macklin (2011-12) as the only Salukis to have done so since the MVC began handing out the award during the 2003-04 season.
SIU returns to SIU Arena tonight to host the SIUE Cougars at 6 p.m. The Salukis will then play their next two on the road, as they travel to Morehead, Ky. to tangle with Morehead State on Thursday, Nov. 30 before traveling to Huntington, W.Va. to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday, Dec. 2.
