
Salukis Take Down Missouri State to Complete Two-Game Series Sweep

Carbondale, Ill. -Â The Southern Illinois Salukis completed its two-game series sweep over the Missouri State Bears on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 10-0 at home. For the second straight game, the Salukis came back from down 2-0 as they won by a final score of 7-5.Â
Madi Eberle earned the win for the Salukis as she improved to 8-1 on the season. Eberle entered the game in the first inning with two outs and the bases loaded and was able to get out of the jam with a big strikeout. In just over six innings, Eberle allowed three earned runs on just four hits as she retired nine straight batters from the end of the first inning until the fourth.Â
The Salukis got a run back in the bottom half of the first inning after Aubree DePron tripled to left center and was brought home on an RBI fielder's choice from Jackie Lis. Southern leads the Valley with eight triples on the season.Â
Still trailing 2-1 in the third inning, Rylie Hamilton sparked a two-out rally with the bases loaded on a single through the right side to score two. After a stolen base from Hamilton to take second, Anna Carder drove in two more runs with a single up the middle to extend the lead to 5-2.Â
Emma Austin continued to add to the Dawgs lead in the fourth with an RBI-single to score Bailey Caylor. Austin went 2-for-4 with a run scored as Caylor had her first multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. Anna Carder had her second RBI-hit of the day in the fifth with an RBI-double for the Saluki's seventh run of the game to lead 7-2. The freshman catcher went 2-for-3 with a season-high three RBIs.
Missouri State scored three runs on three hits and an error in the sixth inning to make it just a two-run game. Eberle was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout as the bases were still loaded to end the top half of the inning.Â
After hitting the leadoff batter in the seventh, Eberle retired the next three batters to end the game and give the Salukis their 19th win of the season to improve to 19-3 (2-0 MVC).
Next up for the Salukis is another MVC series at home as the Valparaiso Beacons come to Carbondale for a three-game series beginning this Friday, March 17 - Sunday, March 19. Game one on Friday will begin at 4 PM, with a 2 PM start Saturday, and lastly a 12 PM first pitch on Sunday.
