Carder's Go-Ahead Home Run Sends Salukis To MVC Quarterfinals

Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Salukis advanced to the MVC Tournament Quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over the UIC Flames on Wednesday night. With the win, the Salukis set themselves up for a rematch with #3 Illinois State after just playing a three-game series to end the regular season.
Anna Carder sent the go-ahead home run over the right center wall in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the only runs of the game on the board. Just before Carder's two-run blast, Rylie Hamilton drew a nine-pitch walk to put a runner on in a key spot for the Salukis. Carder's home run was her fifth of the season as she now totals 36 RBIs as well.
The Dawgs won their 10th shutout of the season behind a four-hit complete game from Madi Eberle for her 16h win of the season. Eberle also allowed just one walk and three strikeouts as she was backed up very nicely by the Saluki defense who finished with zero errors. Making her 51st start of the season at third base, Hamilton made several big plays including a 5-3 double play.
Despite only having four hits, the Salukis were able to make solid contact all night as they struck out just two times. Tori Schullian, Sidney Jones, and Jackie Lis all singled as Hamilton got on twice via walk and hit by pitch.
The Salukis are back for round-two on Thursday night at 7 PM for the Quarterfinals against Illinois State.
