MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southern Illinois Women's Volleyball swept Memphis to extend its winning streak to four in Wednesday's midweek match.
The victory was Southern's second sweep of the season, one they dominated in the early going.
Southern Illinois raced out to a double-digit lead and never looked back, taking set one 25-13.
Set two told a similar story. The Tigers stayed close with Southern initially, but the Salukis steadily built a lead and won another comfortable set 25-18, capped by a kill from Kelly Franklin, who not only put together another efficient night hitting .545, but led the team with 13 kills. Head Coach Brittany Harry continues to be impressed by Franklin's play.
"This was a really great team win, although I cannot say enough about Kelly Franklin and what she is doing for our team offensively."
Memphis gave its best effort in set three, making the Salukis work if they wanted to execute a sweep. The Tigers led by a margin of 13-7, but Harry commended her team for not losing focus and fighting back to win 25-21 and secure the sweep.
"I thought our team did a heck of a job executing our scout, and I loved seeing our kids locked in the whole time, even when we didn't get off to the best start in the third set," Harry said. "We were not swinging aggressively as we did early on, but there were a couple of challenges that we used to mentally refocus, and chip away to build some momentum. Once we were tied up, you could just feel the shift back to our gals playing to win, and you love to see that on your half of the court."
Four straight wins are the program's longest streak since 2023.
