PATTERSON, Calif. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team sits in second place after the first round of the Diablo Grande Invitational on Sunday.
The Salukis are 10 strokes out of first place with a team total of 336. Minnesota leads the field with a team score of 326 after the first 18 holes.
Christine Zoerlein was SIU's low scorer with an opening round of 80, tying her for second place overall.
Kelly Gerlach and Lauren May finished in a tie for ninth for the Salukis, shooting opening rounds of 85.
Kate Laegeler posted an 86 on day one to finish in a tie for 15th.
Braidy Hood rounded out the Salukis' scoring with an 89 through the first day, tying her for 26th place.
The tournament will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the second of three 18-hole rounds.
