SIU sank 101 pars, the fourth most of any team
The Salukis opened the 2016-17 season in Bloomington, Ill. today at the Redbird Invitational on the campus of Illinois State University. Southern sits in seventh place after the first two rounds.
SIU shot a 304 in the first round behind nice performances from junior Alice Ho, senior Brooke Cusumano and sophomore Sun Jung. Jung and Ho both shot 3-over-par 75 and Cusumano sat at 4-over-par 76 after the opening round.
A second round team-score of 309 dropped Southern down the leaderboard just slightly, but the Salukis could potentially crack the top-five with a strong performance tomorrow in the final round.
The Salukis sank 101 pars throughout the first two rounds, the fourth-most pars of any school at the Redbird Invitational.
At the top of the leaderboard Boston College and Northern Illinois are tied with team scores of 597 and sit 16 strokes ahead of SIU. The Redbird invitational has six Missouri Valley Conference school playing in the event. Host school Illinois State leads all MVC schools and is in fifth with a team total of 613, but Bradley and Southern are not far off the pace with team scores of 609 and 613.
The Redbird Invitational will conclude tomorrow. The action begins at 8:30 with a shotgun start.
